About
Aheneah is Ana Martins, a Portuguese textile artist, researcher, and material maker based in New York. Working at the intersection of traditional textile and contemporary art, she creates new textile structures using fiber, bioplastics, and unconventional, repurposed materials. Her practice explores how repetition shapes form and how fragile elements transform into resilient structures through aggregation and manipulation. Fascinated with dualities - soft vs hard, structured vs fluid, delicate vs robust - Aheneah explores the coexistence of opposing forces in her work.
She has created public art installations across Europe and exhibited in the U.S. and Europe, with recent New York presentations at the NARS Foundation, L’Space Gallery, and the United Nations. Her work is held in collections including GALP, Taguspark, Casa das Artes Bissaya Barreto, Liebesbier Hotel, and TOUS. Her practice has been featured by Designboom and This Is Colossal, as well as in the book Unravelling Women’s Art.
Aheneah is currently completing her MFA in Textiles at Parsons as a Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation scholar.
